{"id":78,"date":"2008-02-07T15:30:11","date_gmt":"2008-02-07T21:30:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.perceptivepetal.com\/wordpress\/?p=78"},"modified":"2008-02-07T15:30:26","modified_gmt":"2008-02-07T21:30:26","slug":"instructional-design-musings","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.perceptivepetal.com\/wordpress\/instructional-design-musings\/","title":{"rendered":"Instructional Design Musings"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Well, it has been 17 years since I received my Masters Degree in Instructional Design and Techonogy from the University of Iowa!\u00a0 Now enrolled in this class at Boise State, I realize that I hadn&#8217;t been doing much literature reading in the ID area in quite some time!<\/p>\n<p>As I was reading through the <u>Games and Simulations in Online Learning<\/u>\u00a0 text, it was good to see the names I remembered so well&#8230;Reigeluth (now and Schwartz, what happened to Stein?), Merril, Gagne, Chohen and Ball, Piaget, Gardner, Kolb, and especially, Alessi &#8212; my former professor at the University of Iowa.\u00a0 There were some new names and more recent dates, but I felt a little better that the field had not been totally replaced by new theories!<\/p>\n<p>What was I doing all these years while I wasn&#8217;t reading ID journals?\u00a0 I guess I was learning Visual Studio.NET, passing the CCNA exam, and video podcasting!\u00a0 \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p>I started to read the <u>Learning by Doing<\/u> book first for two reasons:\u00a0 I could immediately download a e-Book for $13 more dollars, it came to my door first.\u00a0\u00a0 I really do prefer the hard-copy of the book to the e-book.\u00a0 Don&#8217;t know if that will ever change!\u00a0 I was reading it sequentially, even when the author suggested I had multiple paths I could choose.\u00a0 Then, I thought I would throw caution to the wind and actually follow a path of my interest.\u00a0 After all, he had given me &#8220;permission!&#8221;\u00a0 That was such a refreshing change.\u00a0 I did eventually come back to the next chapter in sequence, but did &#8220;enjoy the ride&#8221; pursuing my interests more in depth.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Well, it has been 17 years since I received my Masters Degree in Instructional Design and Techonogy from the University of Iowa!\u00a0 Now enrolled in this class at Boise State, I realize that I hadn&#8217;t been doing much literature reading in the ID area in quite some time!
