{"id":136,"date":"2008-02-28T22:01:24","date_gmt":"2008-02-29T04:01:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.perceptivepetal.com\/wordpress\/?p=136"},"modified":"2008-03-31T16:40:38","modified_gmt":"2008-03-31T22:40:38","slug":"cognititon-and-gaming","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.perceptivepetal.com\/wordpress\/cognititon-and-gaming\/","title":{"rendered":"Cognititon and Gaming"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As I read through Chapters 5-6 of the Gibson et al text, I collected these thoughts:<\/p>\n<p>3D Learning Environments &#8212; depending upon age and computer experience; learners have different ways of understanind a 3D learning environment.\u00a0 For the Gen Y&#8217;ers it is second nature to them &#8212; intuitively understood.\u00a0 For the newest generation, I am understanding that predictions are that they will not only readily adapt to a gaming environment for learning, but expect it!\u00a0 I am already seeing that in my young children.<\/p>\n<p>Jones &amp; Bonack (Gibson, p. 92) stated that a 3D online learning environment could &quot;improve a student&#8217;s interaction and discourse.\u00a0 I believe that this is true.\u00a0 I find it very easy to approach someone I don&#8217;t even know in SL and ask them something.\u00a0 This is something that I lack in social graces in the RL!\u00a0 \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Constructivism_(learning_theory)\">Constructivism<\/a><\/strong> applied to Learning in SL especially with games and simulations<strong><\/p>\n<p>Knowledge is Social<\/strong> &#8211; SL lends itself to this with its collaborative groups and friends<br \/><strong>Learning is Participatory<\/strong> &#8211; as communities emerge, common goals are developed and instilled<br \/><strong>Learning Leads Development<\/strong> &#8211; as Learners learn to &quot;create&quot; or &quot;build&quot; in SL, the shared goals produce tangible results<br \/><strong>Knowledge Emerges from Meaningful Activity with Others<\/strong>\u00a0 &#8211; a knowledge base is developed by the group<br \/><strong>Learning Dispositions<\/strong> &#8211; besides simply knowing and doing, roles develop that support a &quot;scaffolding&quot; for learning.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Important issues for Providers to consider include:<\/strong><br \/>Determining target audience for learners:\u00a0 experience, access, etc.<br \/>Develop a support system for learning &#8211; stable learning environment<br \/>Don&#8217;t get stuck in a given LMS or Virtual World &#8212; learn how to effectively create reusable learning objects making migration to the latest tool less problematic.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Important issues for Users to consider include:<\/strong><br \/>Ask questions and respond with answers &#8212; interact with fellow learners<br \/>Provide additional information when you have it<br \/>Serve as a support person<br \/><strong><\/p>\n<p><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>As I read through Chapters 5-6 of the Gibson et al text, I collected these thoughts: 3D Learning Environments &#8212; depending upon age and computer experience; learners have different ways of understanind a 3D learning environment.\u00a0 For the Gen Y&#8217;ers it is second nature to them &#8212; intuitively understood.\u00a0 For the newest generation, I am&#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":[],"categories":[24,20,16],"tags":[],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.perceptivepetal.com\/wordpress\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/136"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.perceptivepetal.com\/wordpress\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.perceptivepetal.com\/wordpress\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.perceptivepetal.com\/wordpress\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.perceptivepetal.com\/wordpress\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=136"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.perceptivepetal.com\/wordpress\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/136\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.perceptivepetal.com\/wordpress\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=136"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.perceptivepetal.com\/wordpress\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=136"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.perceptivepetal.com\/wordpress\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=136"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
