Now that is more like it!

I guess I got better being a user, and got my ideas communicated. Here is their new design. What I like is that they have a project management system that generates emails and keeps me up-to-date. It is a great project management tool as well as communication tool that Designing Digitally is using. I really like the garden idea, and had thought about that right before they sent me this. It is nice to be on the same wavelength.
My Alter Ego

In Second Life, I am Kiriki Tsure. Yes folks, you need to know that once you pick your name, you can’t change it unless you create a different avatar entirely! You choose your first name, but your last name you need to pick from a list. I didn’t want to be recognized (ROTFL) so I picked this name. Kiriki is my old Camp Fire Girl Name that was supposed to mean “Bright Eyes.”
Because I needed another avatar for testing, I created Exploria Telling.

The Building has Commenced!

In my SOW (that is Scope of Work), I indicated an “E”-shaped building. I wanted this to represent our District logo we call, “the bug.” The logo represents the three campuses joined by the Mississippi River. The “E” is really backwards and from an aerial view. Here is what my designers came up with — exactly what I asked for!

See — users never know what they want, until you give them what they asked for!

Building on the Virtual Campus
Filed Under Second Life | Leave a Comment
Well, today I hired Designing Digitally to give us a jump start on our EICCD Virtual Campus in Second Life. The design team at Designing Digitally is going to design a futuristic building for our main presence, provide a landing point for us and give us a beach to play on!
From that point, we will allow our campus builders free reign to customize their spot on the island. We want to have a sandbox area for our visitors, too.
Designing Digitally has set us up in their project management software so that we can see when tasks are completed. This is an exciting process. Should have something to showcase very soon. What I need to figure out is how to give searchable, teleportable access to the island. So far, that has eluded me. I can invite someone to the island, and if they set a landmark, they can return to it. Back to the web and the books to figure out how to do this!
Kindle

I love to read, but have not been one for the eBooks because they tie me to a computer. Well, Amazon.com just announced their wireless Kindle device that allows you to read all sorts of electronic media — portably! The only problem right now is the pricetag. Now if only they would give me one to try out and write a review about!

Making Cables

Tools of the trade!
You will need to have patch cables, crossover cables, and rollover cables in your networking toolkit.
Use the EIA/TIA Standards for your ends:
568A
White/Green Green White/Orange Blue White/Blue Orange White/Brown Brown
568B
White/Orange Orange White/Green Blue White/Blue Green White/Brown Brown
** Note colors are read with the clip of the RJ-45 connector on the bottom.
Patch Cable (straight through) – make both ends the same (we use 568B configuration)
Crossover Cable – make one end 568A and one end 568B
Rollover Cable – use the ribbon cable and make ends opposite. To check before crimping, place both ends together with the writing on the cable on the same side and the clips both down. Make sure that they are opposite.
IMPORTANT: You must crimp the ends before testing
When testing with the Fluke 620 LAN Cablemeter meant to test patch cables, your patch/straight through cables should say Pass and give you the length.
When testing a crossover cable with the Fluke 620 LAN Cablemeter you will get a miswire with a wiremap of:
12 36 45 78
36 12 45 78
When testing the rollover with the Fluke 620 LAN Cablemeter, you will get a Split Pair error with the following wire map:
12 36 45 78
87 63 54 21
Hidden Window

In using my Epson Scanner with the Smart Panel, I seemed to have lost the Scanning window that displays all of my scanned documents. It appears on my Windows Taskbar, but when I click (or Alt-Tab) to switch to it, the cursor flies to the upper left-hand corner of my monitor off the screen!
Solution: Right-click on the program in the task bar and select move. The cursor changes to a cross-arrow type of icon. Now use your arrow keys to get it back on the screen.
Thanks to Tim H. for looking this up! Unfortunately, when I got back home to try it…it did appear to be trying to move the window, but it was still hidden from view!!!!
Sent to Folder

Want to add something to your “Send To” list? When you right-click on something in Windows XP and you get a menu with the “Send To” option on it, you can add other things to that list as follows:
Go to C:\Documents and Settings\username\Send To (note that your Send To folder is hidden. To unhide them in My Computer go to Folder Options in the Tool Menu. Then go to the View tab. Under the Hidden files and folders area select Show hidden files and folders. Whatever you want to put there — will appear when you right-click something and select Send To…
The reason I was looking this up was that my Compressed Folder was missing. I found this reference: http://www.winhelponline.com/articles/5/1/ Typing in rundll32 zipfldr.dll,RegisterSendto at the Run prompt worked like a charm!

Got this wierd error:
Error while trying to run project. Could not load file or assembly…or one of its dependencies. The given assembly name or code base was invalid.
Problem solved: There was an apostrophe in the Project name. Removed that — and all fixed!
Time to Tune up your PC

When was the last time you backed up your data, let alone your entire system? What happens if your hard drive crashed tomorrow. How quickly could you recover? Have you considered online backups? offsite backups? any backups?
Now is the time to backup your data as if you needed to restore it tomorrow.
